Carbondale police investigating body found in fire

CARBONDALE — Carbondale police are conducting a death investigation, after responding with firefighters to a location East Main Street around 8 o’clock Tuesday morning for a report of an active fire.

According to police reports, the fire department extinguished the fire and the investigation revealed a dead body.

The cause and manner of death and the identity of the deceased are undetermined at this time. The investigation is currently active and there is no further information available for release at this time.

The Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services Unit and the Jackson County Coroner’s Office are assisting with the investigation.
