MOUNT VERNON — A Sunday morning car-motorcycle crash in Mt. Vernon claimed the life of the 54-year-old motorcyclist, of Bluford.

At approximately 10:19 a.m., a vehicle driven by 81-year-old George Loker, of Keenes,  was southbound on 13th Street and stopped at the intersection with Main Street.

According to the accident report, Loker indicated that there was a vehicle traveling westbound in the north lane of Main Street but he felt the distance was safe enough to proceed into the intersection.

A motorcycle driven by Frankie D. Belmont was westbound in the south lane of Main Street and collided with the driver’s side door of the Loker vehicle, turning the motorcycle counterclockwise and ejecting Belmont from the motorcycle.

Belmont was transported from the scene to Crossroads Community Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Loker and a passenger in his vehicle, 65-year-old Brenda Stephens of Waltonville, were transported to SSM Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment of injuries suffered in the crash.  Loker was cited for failure to yield at a stop intersection.
