BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (AP) — Bond has been set at $5 million for a central Illinois man charged in the death of a Peoria woman.

Kyle Brestan of Bloomington is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 27-year-old Shannon Hastings.

The woman’s body was found in a Bloomington hotel room. She had been stabbed more than 100 times.

During Friday’s bond hearing, McLean County Assistant State’s Attorney Brad Rigdon says surveillance video collected by police shows Brestan in blood- splattered clothing riding a bicycle on May 16. He says that video was captured three hours after he was seen on another surveillance video with the victim.

Authorities say Brestan admitted on May 23 that he was friends with Hastings and had been in her hotel room several times.

It wasn’t immediately known if Brestan has legal representation.
