CUMBERLAND COUNTY — A 56-year-old Georgia man was killed early Tuesday morning when his motorcycle was struck by a semi-truck on Interstate 57 in Cumberland County.

According to the Illinois State Police, around 1:54 a.m. Tuesday, 41-year-old James T. McMorris, of Louisiana, was northbound on I-57 about 5 miles south of Neoga when at mile post 175 he was directly behind a Harley Davidson driven by George Varvisiotes in the right lane of traffic.

Crash reports say the semi struck the rear of the motorcycle causing both vehicles to leave the roadway.

Varvisiotes was pronounced dead at the scene by the Cumberland County Coroner’s Office. Charges are pending as ISP’s crash reconstruction unit continues its investigation into the crash
