JEFFERSON COUNTY — Two people were airlifted Saturday night from a multi-vehicle head-on crash in Jefferson County to a St. Louis area hospital for treatment.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, they responded around 10:20 p.m. Saturday to Illinois Highway 148 near East Emerson City Road in Scheller for a 911 call about the crash.

The driver of the Mustang, 44-year-old William Chaffin, of Scheller, was treated at the scene. He was cited for using a mobile device while operating a motor vehicle, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and improper lane usage.
