WHITE COUNTY — Two of the three inmates who escaped from the White County Jail in Carmi early Saturday morning are still on the run.

Corrections officials say they are still looking for 24-year-old Zachery J. Shock, who is awaiting trial for murder in Hamilton County, and 61-year-old Johnny E. Tipton, who is charged with theft.

Both men along with 28-year-old Justin M. Bray broke out of the jail by reportedly using a pipe to break a hole in the wall. Outside video showed them running on foot down an alley just after 3 a.m. Saturday.

Bray was taken into custody around 7:30 Saturday night in a rural location east of Crossville. He was spotted walking along a county road, he fled on foot and was located in an oil field tank.

Bray was transported back to the White County Jail where he will face escape charges. Bail will be set at $1 million. He was previously charged with unlawful use of a weapon.

The White County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by U.S. Marshal Service, Illinois State Police and Carmi K-9 unit.

Shock is charged with two counts First Degree Murder and one count Class X aggravated battery with a firearm in connection with the shooting death in his mother’s home of a Salem man James L. Berkel–reportedly his mother’s boyfriend.

A few hours after the shooting, Shock was taken into custody in Wayne County and was transported to the White County Jail. His bail was set at $2.5 million.

According to court records, between the ages of 15 and 17, Shock also lived in Salem, at one point in 2011 listing Berkel’s home address on West Rogers.

Shock is 5’10” tall weighing 175 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes. Tipton is 5’9” tall weighing 200 pounds. He has gray hair and blue eyes.
