FINDLAY, Ill. (AP) — The state of Illinois will provide money to try to spark interest in a resort along Lake Shelbyville that closed nearly a decade ago because of environmental and financial problems.

The (Decatur) Herald and Review reports the state will issue a new request for proposals next month for the Eagle Creek Resort and Conference Center. A spokesman for state Sen. Chapin Rose says the state will provide $500,000 to help with demolishing the resort.

The resort is located at Eagle Creek State Recreation Area in Shelby County. It’s been closed since mold was detected in the resort’s main building in 2009. An 18-hole golf course still is open.

The Department of Natural Resources sought private developers earlier this year but the lone bid was rejected.
