WASHINGTON COUNTY — The drivers of two semi-trucks and one passenger were taken to the Washington County Hospital early Friday morning after the two semis crashed on Interstate 64 near Okawville.

According to the Illinois State Police, 61-year-old Charles Riley, of Shobonier, and 34-year-old Suliemon Mellette, of Penn., were traveling westbound in the right lane of I-64 at milepost 50 when Riley’s Freightliner struck the rear of Mellette’s International.

Both drivers, along with Mellette’s 40-year-old passenger Gambia Lowe, of N.C. suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Riley was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.
