JEFFERSON COUNTY — One person has died after a three-semi crash Wednesday at the westbound Interstate 64 rest stop in Jefferson County.

According to the Illinois State Police, around 6:20 p.m. three vehicles were involved in the deadly crash.

The first semi-truck exited I-64 into the rest area. For an unknown reason the vehicle continued into the rest area and failed to stop.

The semi first struck a tree and continued until it struck a parked semi driven by 62-year-old Roosevelt Brown, of St. Louis.

The second semi was pushed into a third semi driven by 48-year-old David Smith, of El Paso, Texas that was also parked.

The driver of the first semi was fatally injured. Brown was injured and taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon with non-life threatening injuries. Smith was not injured according to police.
