Emigdio Penuelas-Medina pleaded guilty Wednesday to Class 1 felony possessing more than 200 grams of a controlled substance, in exchange for Class X felony charges of manufacture with the intent to deliver more than 900 grams of Fentanyl and trafficking of a controlled substance being dismissed.

Medina was arrested in May when Illinois State Police troopers patrolling Interstate 70, conducted a traffic stop which yielded 65 kilograms of suspected cocaine. The estimated street value of the suspected cocaine was more than $1 million.

He’s remained in the Fayette County Jail since his arrest with bail set at $500,000.

He was initially charged with manufacture with the intent to distribute more than 900 grams of cocaine, but after lab testing the charge was amended to list the substance as fentanyl.

In addition to the 12 year prison sentence Medina will have to serve 2-years mandatory supervised release at the completion of his prison term and pay almost $2,600 in fines and fees.
