He was born October 7, 1927, the son of Robert Jasper and Mary Allen (Anderson) Blackburn in Xenia, IL. He married the love of his life Effie Nicolay on August 14, 1949 at the Sandoval Christian Church. She preceded him in death.
Survivors to carry on Xon’s memory include his loving daughters Xondra Williams and Cheryl Finley, special friend Steve Paradee all of Centralia; precious grandchildren Anjinett Husher, husband Art of Centralia, Aaron Piper of Hermiston, Oregon, and Matt Finley of Centralia; great grandchildren Ayden and Kolton Piper, and Rachel and Michael Finley.
In addition to his wife, Xon was preceded in death by both of his parents, sisters Ruby Vanderhye, Vera Fern Dunn, and Lorene Tucker; brothers Leroy “Pete” Blackburn, Cecil Blackburn, and Oral Blackburn.
Xon proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. Upon returning home from the Navy, Xon made a career as a carman welder for 42 years with the Illinois Centralia Railroad. In his retirement, he became a member of the National Association of Retired Railway Employees, and the A.A.R.P. Xon was an outdoorsman who enjoyed spending time fishing, working in his yard, or riding his motorcycle. Xon was also a devoted member of the Calumet Street Christian Street who enjoyed greeting those in attendance with a warm smile and handshake on Sunday mornings. His family will treasure the memories he made with them as a loving father and grandfather.
Celebration of life services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 30, 2019, at the Irvin Macz Funeral Home with Pastor John Willis officiating. Graveside services will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery with military rites accorded by the Centralia American Legion Post 446 and Centralia VFW Post 2055.
Friends and relatives are invited to visiting hours from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Tuesday, January 29, 2018.
