FAYETTE COUNTY — A 25-year-old Los Lunas, New Mexico woman was sentenced Friday in Fayette County court to 4-years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after to trafficking a controlled substance.

Anais Rivera Olivas was arrested in December 2018, after an Illinois State Police trooper stopped her vehicle on Interstate 70 in Fayette County. According to court records, a search of her vehicle resulted in the discovery of more than 900 grams of heroin.

She was arrested with 24-year-old Omar E. Lastra, of El Monte, California. They were both initially charged with Class X felony trafficking of a controlled substance, Class 1 felony possession of more than 900 grams of heroin, Class 3 felony trafficking of a controlled substance and Class 4 felony possession of a controlled substance.

The Class X felony charge was later reduced to a second Class 1 felony charge of possessing more than 900 grams of heroin.

Olivas pleaded guilty Friday to the Class 3 charge in exchange for the other charges being dismissed.

Both Olivas and Lastra have remained in the Fayette County Jail since their arrests with bail set at $300,000 each.

Olivas has been recommended for impact incarceration and Lastra is next scheduled to appear in court on February 12.
