CENTRALIA — Centralia police are investigating an early morning shooting that claimed the life of one man.

According to Centralia Police Chief Brian Atchison, around 3:52 a.m. Sunday, his department began receiving multiple 911 calls of shots fired. One call reported a man down near an alley in the 500 block of Hausler Street between Maple and Sycamore.

The Marion County Coroner pronounced the man dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending an autopsy Monday and the notification of family members.

Atchison says officers continue to investigate the incident and are questioning witnesses and potential witnesses.

He also confirms detectives are working with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office in regard to a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 64 that may be connected to the shooting death.

In that crash a male occupant of the vehicle was reportedly suffering from gunshot wounds.

That person’s condition is unknown, but he was reportedly alive when transported to the Washington County Hospital in Nashville for treatment.
