CENTRALIA — Lewis “Lew” Ray Dodson, 74, of Centralia, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2019 at SSM Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon.
He was survived by his children: son, Gregory Lewis Dodson and wife Shelley of Centralia, a step-son, Curt Ernest Hagegeorge of Alaska, a son, Lewis Edward Dodson and Angie of Centralia, and a daughter, Tamber Lynn Lusch and Jerry of Tonti; five grandchildren: Adam Durham, Connor Dodson, Lewis Edward Dodson II, Cooper Dodson, and Kaytlyn Dodson; three great-grandchildren: Peyton Durham, Harper Lynae Durham and Tyrion Durham.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a son: Lawrence Robert Dodson.
Lew served in the U.S. Marine Corps. While stationed at Camp Pendleton in California, he attended St. Patrick Catholic Parish. Lew served as Sergeant with the Central City Police Department for 10 years. He was an avid golf fan. In his younger years, he enjoyed bowling and competitive shooting. He was a member of the Centralia Moose Lodge 1219, Centralia Elks Lodge 493, and Centralia American Legion Post 446.
Funeral Services for Lewis “Lew” R. Dodson will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 26, 2019, at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home in Centralia with Monsignor David Darin officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Centralia. Military Honors will be accorded at the gravesite by the American Legion Post 446 and V.F.W. Post 2055.
Visitation will be held from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday afternoon at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shop with a Cop and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Street Centralia, Illinois 62801, 618-532-3523, who is honored to be of service to the Dodson Family.
