MOUNT VERNON — The Illinois State Fire Marshal has been called in to investigate a structure fire late Tuesday night in Mt. Vernon.

Mt. Vernon firefighters responded to a call of a fire around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday at 12th and Wescott.

Mt. Vernon Fire subsequently called in Jefferson Fire Protection, as well as Woodlawn and Waltonville fire protection districts for mutual aid.

No injuries were reported and all occupants were out of the home, but Red Cross has been called to assist the residents.

It’s unclear how much damage the home suffered, but firefighters returned to the scene Wednesday morning to extinguish hot spots that had popped up.
