One Mt. Vernon Resident Asking for Help as Draining Water Piling Up in Backyard

MT. VERNON — One Mt. Vernon resident is pleading for help from any government agency as her property has turned swampy from recent rains and what she says is improvements her neighbors have made to their property.

Ruth Keef has lived at her Liebengood Street home in Summersville for over 20 years. She says although the rain we’ve seen this year hasn’t helped, she’s never had as many water issues with her property as she has had this year.

Keef says improvements her neighbors have made to their property has moved the natural draining path from their property onto hers.

Neighbor Larry Sechrest says the property in question has been in his family for over 60 years. He says the rains this year have been the biggest issue, and that the natural drainage path has always ran down into the low point of the area on her property.

City officials have told Keef the issue is a civil matter and they cannot do anything with the problem.
