The Interview Will Be Distributed [Video]

Despite Sony Pictures stating last week that they have “no further release plans for the film,” Sony Lawyer David Boies said on Meet the Prass that The Interview will be distributed someway.

Boies said on the show, “Sony has been fighting to get this picture distributed. It will be distributed. How it’s going to be distributed, I don’t think anybody knows quite yet. But it’s going to be distributed.”

How will that be, though? According to the New York Post, sources have told them that the plan is to release the comedy on Crackle. Crackle is Sony’s online distributor of original webseries, Hollywood films and TV shows.

Sony had said earlier in the week that the company had reached out to streaming and Video on Demand partners, saying, “There has not been one major VOD…one major e-commerce site that has stepped forward and said they are willing to distribute this movie for us.” Crackle is likely being viewed as a last option as there is no architecture in the service for SOny to charge for the film; Crackle is a free service that pays for itself with ad support similar to Hulu.

BitTorrent offered to distribute the film via its BitTorrent Bundle service, which allows companies to charge a price for downloads. BitTorrent noted that they were not trying to suggest that Sony Pictures post to illegal sites, but instead through a controlled manner through BitTorrent.
