KINMUNDY — Elwyn D. Cheatum,85, of Kinmundy, died at 10:13 a.m. Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at Doctors Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Nov. 28, 1928, in Mason, the son of Ervin and Nina (Norris) Cheatum. He married Louise Green Cheatum on April 15, 1950, at Kinmundy Christian Church in Kinmundy, and she survives in Kinmundy.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Cheatum is survived by his son, Dan Cheatum, of Carbondale; daughter Janice Eischens and husband Steve, of Salem; brother Dan Cheatum and wife Ellie of Fairfield Glade, Tenn.;sisters-in-law, June Cheatum, of Effingham, and Eileen Cheatum, of Salem; grandchildren Cameron Eischens and wife Samantha, of Kinmundy,and Elsbeth Charlton, of Alma; and great-grandchildren Noah, Logan, Tucker, Carly, Collin, and Isaiah.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother William “Spike” Cheatum.
Mr. Cheatum was self-employed in the real estate business. He was a member of the Kinmundy First United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the Masons,Shriners, and Scottish Rite. He was a two-term mayor of Kinmundy, president of Peoples Board of Realtors, and member of the Kaskaskia College Foundation Board.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, February 17, 2014, at the Kinmundy First United Methodist Church in Kinmundy, with Stephen King officiating. Interment will follow at Sandy Branch Cemetery in Kinmundy.
Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. Sunday, at the church, with Masonic rites at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will again be held from 10 until 11 a.m. Monday, at the church.
Memorials may be made to Sandy Branch Cemetery, Kinmundy-Alma EMTs, or the Ingram’s Log Cabin Restoration Fund.
