Glen L. Koelmel, 78, of Shattuc, passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at Good Samaritan Regional Hospital in Mt. Vernon. He was born September 3, 1934 the son of Fred and Edna (Wollenweber) Koelmel in Shattuc.
He married Norma Jean Reinkensmeyer on August 21, 1955 in Ferrin. She preceded him in death on April 25, 2008. He later married Charlene Elliott Leitsch on August 11, 2012 in Good Hope, IL and she survives in Shattuc.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters Sandy Wilson, husband Dennis of Mt. Vernon, Connie Bickers, husband Tom of St. Joseph, IL; four sons Larry Koelmel, wife Tammy of Mt. Vernon, Terry Koelmel, wife Lynette of Centralia, Rodney Koelmel, wife Shelley of Shattuc, and Rick Koelmel, wife Margaret of O’Fallon; sister-in-law Lois Koelmel of Alton, IL; 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Edna Koelmel, wife Norma Jean Koelmel, brother Melvin Koelmel, and grandson Cory Hubbell.
Glen served in the past on the Clinton County Fair Board and Meridian Township Trustee. He was a lifelong farmer. He enjoyed restoring antique tractors and spending time with his grandchildren. Glen also had many friends & never met a stranger.
Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Friday, August 23, 2013 at Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sandoval Fire Department or the Donor’s Choice. Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval with Rev. Aaron Evrard officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
