Helen Louise Arnold

helen arnoldVERNON — Helen Louise Arnold died Monday, December 2, 2013 at Twin Willows Nursing Center in Salem.

She was born October 29, 1927 in Bloomington, the daughter of Jeff Ward and Rachel Ann (Galiher) Ward. She married Robert Q. Arnold, Jr. on June 28, 1979 in rural Vernon.

She is survived by two sisters, Mary Geneva Williams and Doris Purcell and husband Jim, all of Salem; three daughters, Cheryl Thomas and husband Robert of Robinsville, N.C., Cindy Anspach and husband Glen of Salem, and Carla Burgess-Stransky and George Pontious of Vernon; three step-children, Doug Arnold and wife Diane of Odin, John Arnold and wife Tonya of Salem, and Diane Sechrest of Salem; four grandchildren, Rodney Harvey of Salem, Jeff Anspach of Salem, Gala Rose and husband Dustin of Iuka, and Rachel Stransky of Salem; two step-grandchildren, Grant Arnold of Salem and Michael Arnold of Odin; four great grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Jeff and Rachel Ward; brothers Marion Ward, George Ward and Roy Ward; sisters Nola Olsen and Ruth Mulvaney; and husband Robert Arnold.

Helen grew up in Bloomington and lived in Salem until moving to Vernon in 1979. She worked for Brown Shoe Company in Salem as a shoe cutter for over 20 years. She also worked for the Patoka Labor Local for many years. She was a member of the Marshall Creek Baptist Church and Salem Legion Auxiliary. In her spare time she made over 400 quilts and donated them to the many service personnel around the world as well as local persons in need.

Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. Thursday at Day Macz Funeral Home in Patoka  and again with a viewing from 10 until 11 a.m. Friday, with services to follow. Burial will be at the Marshall Creek Baptist Church cemetery with Pastor Bill Price officiating.

Memorials may be made to Passages Hospice, Marshall Creek Baptist Church, the Centralia Humane Society or the family to aide in the payment of medical expenses.
