John Stover, Jr., age 89, of Centralia, Illinois, passed away at 5:08 A.M. on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Odin HealthCare Center in Odin, Illinois. He was born on August 25, 1923 in Raccoon Township of Marion County, Illinois, the son of John R. Stover, Sr. and Stella F. (Garren) Stover. He married Virginia Ethel McCoy on May 11, 1941 in St. Charles, Missouri and she preceded him in death on March 30, 2009.
Mr. Stover is survived by his daughter Janet Bruce of Centralia, Illinois, grandson Daron Bruce of Nashville, Tennessee, special friend Jay Stanley of Centralia, Illinois and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife of 67 years, Mr. Stover was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law Larry Bruce, brothers Burdett Stover and Raymond Stover and sister Wilma Rogers.
Mr. Stover was of the Christian Faith. He was a director of the Marion County ESDA and Centralia ESDA. He was a member of the Crime Stoppers. Mr. Stover was on the Marion County Fair Board and was also on the board of the Raccoon Water Company and Illinois Sheriff’s Association. He enjoyed woodworking and feeding the deer in his backyard.
Mr. Stover retired as owner/operator of J.S. Service in Centralia, Illinois and earlier in life, he was a repairman with Sears, Roebuck and Company. He lived most of his life in Centralia, Illinois.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 15, 2013 at the Boggs Chapel in the Moran Queen~Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, Illinois with Pastor Lance Boldt officiating. Interment will follow in the Hillcrest Memorial Park near Centralia, Illinois. Friends may call from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services on Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made in Mr. Stover’s honor to the Marion County Fair Board and will be received at the funeral home.
