Smith Mary JosephineCENTRALIA — Mary Josephine Smith, age 84, of Centralia, passed away at 9:28 P.M. on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Centralia.

She was born on January 9, 1929 in Nashville, Illinois, the daughter of William “Bill” and Mamie (Povolish) Belinski. She was the goddaughter of Ted Michael Grzegorek and Anna Belinski. She married George J. Smith on December 14, 1947 in Pickett, Ark., and they were married for 58 years until he passed away on March 13, 2006.

Mrs. Smith is survived by a daughter Betty Ann Fowler and husband Fred of Centralia; daughter-in-law Debra Smith of Centrali; two grandsons George Michael Smith and wife Tammy, and Michael Fredrick Fowler, all of Centralia; one great-granddaughter Cassie Taylor of Centralia; one brother Ted P. Grzegorek and wife Shirley of Newburg, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents; son George Michael Smith; daughter Margie Sue Smith; one sister Anne Baxter; and three brothers William Belinski, Jr., Frank W. Belinski and Joseph A. Belinski.

Mrs. Smith was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Centralia. She was Junior Vice President of the Centralia V.F.W. Post # 2055 Auxiliary and member of the Catholic Daughters of America. She enjoyed bowling. She loved the time she spent with her family especially her 2 grandsons.

Mrs. Smith retired in 1991 as supervisor for the Hollywood Candy Company in Centralia, and earlier in life, she worked at the Thompsons Restaurant in Nashville, Illinois. She lived her whole life in Centralia.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 31, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Centralia, with Father Justin Olisaemeka officiating. Friends are asked to go directly to the church on Thursday. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park near Centralia.

Friends may call from 5 until 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at the Moran Queen~Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia, with a prayer service at 5 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Smith’s honor to St. Mary Catholic School and will be received at the Moran Queen~Boggs Funeral Home in Centralia.
