She was born the daughter of Colburn and Helen (Mascher) Richeson on September 26, 1928 in Lincoln. She married Don Allen Griffin on August 22, 1948 in Patoka. He survives in Tulsa.
In addition to her husband, survivors include her sons Blake A. Griffin and wife Christine (Barnes) of Tulsa, Scott B. Griffin and wife Bobbette (Phillips) of Bell Buckle, Tenn.; sister Imogene Girard of Culver City, Ca.; sisters-in-law Dorothy Griffin of Patoka, Shirley Griffin of Patoka, and Bonnie Richeson of Sandoval; grandchildren Lance Griffin and wife Liz of Dallas, and Paige Griffin of Tulsa, Nicklaus Griffin and wife Kim of the US.. Navy Virginia Beach, Va., and Wheaton, Asa, and Luke Griffin of Bell Buckle; and great-grandchildren Reed and Hannah.
She was preceded in death by her parents Colburn and Helen and brother Wig Richeson.
Betty was a past member of the West Salem Trinity United Methodist Church, Mt. Vernon Methodist Church, and Aldersgate Methodist Church in Marion. She was very involved with her church serving with the Women’s Guild and Sunday School. She attended most of her sons’ activities as they grew up. She loved the “Birthday Group” which had many fund and fond memories of her. She especially enjoyed the family get togethers during the holidays. She enjoyed taking car rides in the countryside with her husband Don. She was an avid Chicago Cubs Baseball fan and Southern Illinois University Mens’ Basketballl fan. She was an exceptionally good cook and baker.
Services for Mrs. Griffin will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2014 at the Patoka United Methodist Church with Rev. Brad Henson and Rev. Mark Slaate officiating. Burial will follow at the Patoka Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Thursday. Memorial contributions may be made to the West Salem Trinity United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon.
