He was born February 27, 1935 in Sandoval, to William Woods and Gudruda (Phillips) Woods. Douglas (Jim) was an Army Veteran, a former School Teacher, and an Independent Salesman. He lived most of his life in Sandoval, graduating from Sandoval High School and Kaskaskia Jr. College. He also attended McKendree College in Lebanon. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially doting on his grandchildren. He was a member of Sandoval Baptist Church, where over the past forty two years he served as Song Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Bus Driver and Trustee.
He married J. Elaine Brewster on January 27, 1957 at First Baptist Church of Odin.
He is survived by, along with his wife, sons Keith Aaron Woods and wife Laura of Centralia and Stephen Douglas and wife Christine of Bellville; seven grandchildren, Chavisa Rose Woods, Adam Stephen Woods, Jacob Douglas Woods, Sylvia Audrey Woods, Brenna Emilie Woods, Fiona Elanore Woods and Gabriel David Woods; brothers Raymond Woods and wife Charlene of Odin, Phillip Sandy of Florida, and Russell Sandy of Kansas City, Mo.; sister Jo Lynn Harling and husband Ron of Loves Park, Ill.; and several nieces, nephews, sisters, brothers-in-law, and many friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters Beverly Wiseman of Florida and Wilma Leith of Kansas City, Mo.; and step-father Adrian Sandy of Sandoval.
Services for Jim will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval. Burial will follow at Peaceful Valley Cemetery with Rev. Rick Pearce officiating.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval.
