James “Dick” Padberg

PATOKA — James “Dick” August Padberg, 93, of Patoka passed away Friday, June 6, 2016 at Doctors Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Salem. picture-pub

He was born November 2, 1920, in Centralia, the son of Benjamin Henry and Mary Jane (Lewis) Padberg. He married Ruth Irene Tober on November 24, 1945 in Central City. She passed on December 19, 2009.

Survivors include two sons Donald Padberg of Patoka and David Padberg of Port Isabel, Texas; five grandchildren Donald R. Padberg II and wife Jen of Bismarck, North Dakota, Jimmy James M. Padberg, Jr. of Patoka, Lora Lee Pearce and husband Dale of Salem, Megan Padberg of Lincoln, Nebraska, Jermine Padberg of Austin, Texas; nine great-grandchildren Victoria Padberg, Savannah Padberg, Jaden Padberg, Alesha Padberg, and Donald R. Padberg III, Isabella Pearce, Justice Tomjack, Tristan Sorenson and Ethan Sorenson; and daughter-in-law Paula Padberg of Patoka.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Lelah, Betty, and Pauline; brothers Louie and Benjamin; and son James “Jim” M. Padberg.

James “Dick” was a World War II Veteran. He worked as a union carpenter out of the Patoka Hall. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal baseball fan.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the Funeral Service at noon, Saturday June 14, 2014 at the Patoka United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Slaatte officiating. Burial will follow at the Patoka Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Patoka American Legion Post #543 and the IL. Army National Military Funeral Honors Team.
