MVPD arrests two during sex offender compliance checks

MOUNT VERNON –While conducting compliance checks Tuesday on registered sex offenders within the city, Mt. Vernon Police officers teamed up with members of the U.S. Marshall’s Service and the U.S. Probation Office, arresting two men on separate charges.

During the detail officers arrested 33-year-old Brian Cobb on an outstanding Jefferson County warrant for violation of the Sex Offender Registry Act. Cobb was transported to the Jefferson County jail, where he remains with bail set at $10,000.

Officers also arrested 34-year-old William Stief. He was arrested on an outstanding Jefferson County warrant for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Stief is also jailed in the Jefferson County Justice Center, with bail set at $10,000.

During the compliance checks, officers verified offender’s residency and checked various other provisions of their registration terms. The teams conducted 57 checks.
