Raymond “Blackie” Burns

picture-pubSANDOVAL — Raymond “Blackie” L. Burns, 75, of Sandoval, passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia.

He was born the son of John Edward Sr. and Freda Mae (Porter) Burns on February 13, 1939 in Sandoval. He married Alice M. Deadmond on August 18, 1993 in Kankakee. She preceded him in death on October 14, 1999.

Survivors include two stepsons Gary Deadmond and Evan Deadmond and wife Gladys all of Odin; two brothers Eddie Burns and wife Liz of Carlyle and Danny Burns of Sandoval; three sisters Mary Saatkamp and husband Kenny of Sandoval, Kay Cain and husband Clayton of Patoka, and Pat Bryan and husband Bill of Sandoval; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife Alice he was preceded in death by both of his parents John and Freda.

Mr. Burns served in the United States Navy. He worked for General Motors in La Grange. He retired from the Department of Transportation in Clinton County. He was the co-owner of B&D Furniture and Hardware Store in Sandoval from 1967 to early 2000. He was also a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Sandoval.

Services for Mr. Burns will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval with Father Patrick Peter officiating. Military services by the Patoka American Legion and Illinois National Guard Military Funeral Honors Team will conclude the services at the funeral home. Burial will be held at St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sandoval Fire Department or the St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery Fund. Visitation will be held from 6 – 8 p.m. Monday at Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval.
