Reward offered in connection with shooting of Carlyle tavern owner

10407358_883699728328669_8164485206845269551_nCARLYLE — The Clinton County Sheriff’s Department is investigating an early New Year’s Day shooting in rural Carlyle.

According to Crimestoppers, the call came in at 2:11 a.m. Thursday, from Phil Koehler, the owner of the Flat Branch Saloon located north of Carlyle on Illinois 127 indicating he had been shot during a robbery and was being taken to the hospital.

Two subjects were seen fleeing from the scene. There is a $5,000 reward being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those involved in the aggravated attempted armed robbery of the tavern.

Clinton County Sheriff’s deputies, along with Carlyle police responded to the scene, and a Crime Scene Technician with the Illinois State Police was called in to assist in the investigation.

The victim reportedly provided the first responding deputy with a description of the suspect. No further details are being released at this time.
