Vance Leroy Murfin

picture-pubSALEM — Vance Leroy Murfin, 95, of Salem, formerly of Vernon; died January 3, 2015 at Salem Township Hospital.

He was born the son of Curt Allen and Lillian (Dale) Murfin on October 31, 1919. He married Alice Clendening on April 3, 1942. She preceded him in death on November 27, 2002.

Survivors include his son Dale Murfin of Salem; sister Margaret Lawrence of Green Bay, Wisc.; one grandchild and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Lila Crothers; and brother Richard Murfin.

Mr. Murfin was a member of the First Pentecostal Church of Salem. He formerly worked at the Patoka Elevator and was a janitor for the Patoka High School. He farmed for many years in the area until his retirement in 1994.

Services for Mr. Murfin will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Day Macz Funeral Home in Patoka. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Vernon Cemetery with Rev. Larry Woodward officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Patoka Ambulance or donor’s choice. Day Macz Funeral Home in Patoka is in charge of arrangements.
