Taylor Swift Attempting To Trademark Phrases From ‘1989’

According to Vox, Taylor Swift has trademarked some phrases taken from songs off her massively successful album, ’1989.’

Phrases she wants to trademark include ‘Party Like It’s 1989,’ ‘This Sick Beat,’ ‘Could Show You Incredible Things,’ and more? Though it sounds a little off, this actually is a smart business move, making it impossible for anyone not affiliated with her to make a profit off any merchandise that showcases those phrases. Considering most artists make the majority of their earnings through merchandise sales, the move is actually pretty impressive from a business standpoint.

It might be a little on the overkill side, but let’s be honest, we are talking about a girl who made more money before 18 than most of us will see in a lifetime. Who are we to question her business decisions?
