Mt. Vernon police arrest parolee on burglary charge

Anthony WhiteMOUNT VERNON — Around 2:30 Monday morning, Mt Vernon police officers responded to the Circle K Gas Station on South 10th Street, to investigate a person on the lot attempting to sell a microwave.

Officers made contact with 36-year-old Anthony M. White and observed he had a new

microwave inside his vehicle. White is currently on parole from the Illinois Department of Corrections for previous burglary convictions.

After further investigation the officers determined the microwave was stolen during a burglary that had occurred earlier in the evening from a residence in the 3100 block of Jamison in Mt Vernon. Officers additionally located jewelry items that were believed to be stolen from an address in Jefferson County.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department was notified of the theft from the residence in the county and has begun an investigation.

White was taken into custody for burglary, and was transported to the Jefferson County jail, where he remains awaiting the formal filing of charges and the setting of bail.

The Illinois Department of Corrections was notified of White’s arrest but would not issue a parole violation warrant at this time.
