Rose Marie Williams Walters

Walters picCENTRALIA — Rose Marie Williams Walters, 85, of East Green Street Road in rural Centralia, passed on to be with her Lord and Savior at 12:42 p.m. on Thursday, January 29, 2015, 2014 at her home.

She was born on August 4, 1929 in Centralia, the daughter of Charles “Oren” and Dica “Dicey” (Sanders) Williams. She married Melvin Raymond Walters on September 8, 1947 at the Antioch Methodist Church in rural Centralia, and he preceded her in death on January 23, 1990.

Mrs. Walters is survived by nieces Melva Evans Turner and husband Lin of Rockport, Texas, Karen Evans Mc Mullin and husband Greg of Bay City, Texas; nephew Dexter K. Evans of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by two great-nieces Colette Walters Walden and  husband Robert of Springfield, Mo., and Connie Walters Shelby of Nexa, Mo.; great-nephew Melvin Clifford Walters of Springfield, Mo; along with several great and great-great-nieces and nephews. Also surviving Mrs. Walters is her church family.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.

Mrs. Walters was a graduate of Salem Community High School and worked for several years at Murray Center as an activity aid. She served as the church organist and Sunday School Teacher at Antioch Methodist Church for many years until she and her husband joined her church family at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in 1987. While a member at Zion Hill, Mrs. Walters served as the church organist and Sunday School Teacher of Philathea Ladies Bible Class. She was a past Board Trustee of the Centralia Public Library. Upon retirement from Murray Center, Mrs. Walters continued as a homemaker until her passing.

Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, February 1, 2015 at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Kyle Emery officiating. Interment will follow in the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

Friends may call on Sunday afternoon from 2-3 at the church.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Cemetery or Centralia Public Library, and will be accepted at the Irvin Funeral Home in Odin, who is in charge of arrangements.
