Vida Frances Jarvis Payne Weems

ODIN — Vida Frances Jarvis Payne Weems, 95, of Odin, soared to her heavenly home on February 04, 2015.

She was born May 15, 1919, in Central City, the daughter of John William and Bertha Jarvis. Her greatest love was the Lord, followed by her family, church and friends. Vida Weems Pic

A student of the Holy Word, she loved reading and teaching the scriptures. She led many to Christ through her gentle ways. In her younger years she was 4-H leader, and was a youth mission leader at Marshall Creek Church. She served as clerk for Marshall Creek Baptist Church for 30 plus years, and became a member of Odin Baptist Church due to failing health. For many years she worked at the Odin Care Center, and conducted bible classes there. She spent the final years of her life as a resident there. She also enjoyed reading, and later in life recited poems she memorized as a youth. She loved being surrounded by family and she also enjoyed going camping, sewing, reading, gardening, and singing.

She married Theodore W Payne on June 29, 1940, in Central City. Married for 28 years, he left this earth on February 29, 1969. Together they had four daughter,: Mary Emma Timeaus, from Lake Jackson, Texas, Helen Frances Schackmann, of Odin; Rebecca Sue Moore and husband Robert L., from Odin, and Patricia Ann Moore and husband Rick A., from Franklin, Tenn. As a result of that marriage she is survived by 21 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

In 1977, she married Reverend James E. Forrest “Abe” Weems of Centralia. Her family then expanded to include eight step-children, their spouses and many more grandchildren. He passed away in 1983. Her step-daughter, Ruth Ann “Ruthie” Weems Moore from Clinton, Iowa, formerly of Centralia survives, as well as, many, many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her youngest sister, ClaraLee Sherl and husband Pete of Centralia, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Vida was a blessing to everyone who knew her. She was loved by all and although she will be sorely missed here on earth, her family finds find comfort knowing that she has gone to meet her Savior and Lord. She lived her life looking forward to the day she would see His face.

Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 9, 2015 at Odin Baptist Church in Odin. Interment will follow in the Freedonia (MarshallCreek) Cemetery.

Friends may call on Sunday evening from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends may also call from 10-11 a.m., on Monday, February, 9, 2015, at the church.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to Odin Health Care Center Christmas Program, Freedonia Cemetery, or Donor’s Choice and will be accepted at the Irvin Funeral Home in Odin, who is in charge of arrangements.
