He was born on October 17, 1937 in Odin, the son of William Oscar and Mildred (Shanafelt) Farthing. Harold married Shirley Jean (Purvis) Farthing on October 19, 1957 in Odin.
Mr. Farthing is survived by his wife; mother Mildred Farthing of Odin; son Jerald A. Farthing and wife Patty of Odin; daughter Gayla A. Farthing of Odin; brother William Arnold Farthing and wife Shirley M. of Odin; niece LeAnn Smith and husband Rob of O’Fallon; nephew Tony Farthing and wife Julie of Salem; one granddaughter Savannah M. “Sweet Thing” Farthing; and great-nieces and great-nephews Jackson Smith, Meredith Smith, and Evan Farthing.
He was preceded in death by his father William Farthing.
He was the partner of Farthing Vet Supply. He enjoyed motorcycles. He had his private pilot license. He enjoyed collecting antique cars especially Nash Metropolitans. He was member of Metropolitan Association of North America. Harold and Shirley enjoyed traveling in their motor home, before settling in a second home in Florida.
Funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2015 at Irvin Funeral Home in Odin. Interment will follow in the Peaceful Valley Cemetery with Pastor Kent Denton officiating.
For those who wish, memorials may be made to Shriner’s for Crippled Children or Odin Fire Department, and will be accepted at the Irvin Funeral Home in Odin, who is in charge of arrangements.
