Vandalia man arrested after holding gun on theft subjects

FAYETTE COUNTY — A 48-year-old Vandalia man remained in the Fayette County jail Wednesday afternoon, after he was arrested on gun charges Tuesday night.

Vandalia police report that Kurt Lee Roach was arrested after officers responded around 9:20 p.m. Tuesday night to Capitol Pointe Apartments in reference to a complaint of a man allegedly holding a gun on some subjects who were stealing from him.

Reports say officers arrived on the scene and Roach was arrested for unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful possession of a handgun.

He was formally charged Wednesday morning in Fayette County court with felony aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. His bail was set at $10,000, with a first appearance with private counsel scheduled for February 25. If released on bond, Roach is prohibited from possessing firearms, or ammunition, and must abstain from using drugs or alcohol, or entering bars.

Roach is currently serving weekends in the Menard County jail on an unknown conviction.
