SALEM — A 39-year-old Mt. Vernon man was arrested Wednesday night by Salem police on multiple meth related charges, after he reportedly left the Walmart store on West Main Street in Salem without paying for merchandise.
Chad Pepple remains in the Marion County jail, where he was taken after allegedly leaving the store without paying for $50 worth of merchandise; running toward the gas station and throwing the merchandise back at the loss prevention worker.
Upon officers’ arrival, the worker told them the suspect had purchased pseudoephedrine before and they had his identification information.
Pepple was ultimately arrested and was formally charged Thursday morning in Marion County court with Class 2 offenses for possession of meth manufacturing material, and possession of less than 15 grams of meth precursors, as well as a Class 3 charge for possession of less than 5 grams of meth and misdemeanor retail theft.
Bail for Pepple was set at $25,000, with Pepple indicating he would hire a private attorney.
