Helen Newton Barlow

CENTRALIA — Helen Newton Barlow, 91, of Centralia, passed away at 10:35 a.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at Centralia Manor in Centralia.

Barlow picShe was born on January 26, 1924 in Kevil, Kentucky, the daughter of John Henry Wood and Pearl Adonia Newton. Helen married William “Bill’ Barlow in Mayfield, Kentucky on December 18, 1943. He preceded her in death on October 23, 2000.

Mrs. Barlow is survived by her daughter Janice Tiemann and husband Robert of Irvington; son Bill Barlow and wife Kay of Edwardsville; grandchildren, Michele Brookman and husband Steve, Michael Tiemann and wife Julie, Melissa Hoh and husband Allen, Whitney Barlow, Meghan Barlow and fiancée Ryan Turek; great-grandchildren, Michael, Chenys, Taylor, Hampton, Payton, Joshua, Madison, Jackson; and great-great-grandchildren Amyra and Maxsen.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and three sisters, Pauline, Lois, and Lucy.

She worked for Magnavox Corporation in Paducah, Kentucky and Naval Avionics in Indianapolis. She began her banking career at Old National Bank in Centralia in the 1960s. She retired from First National Bank in Olney after 23 years as assistant vice president. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Centralia. She was in Ruth’s Circle Sunday School Class, and was financial secretary at the church. She was treasurer of the Circle of Concern for Huddleston Baptist Children’s Home. She was president of Cenaca Club. She was a member of a women’s pinochle and bridge club. She was a board member and treasurer for the Area IV American Baptist Association. She was lovingly known as Grandmommy.

Funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2015 Entombment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Centralia.

Friends may call from 10 until 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church and will be accepted at Irvin Funeral Home in Centralia, who is in charge of arrangements.
