CENTRALIA — Brett Alan Young, 47, of San Pedro, Calif., formerly of Centralia, died Monday, March 2, 2015, at his home.
He was born June 3, 1967, in Centralia, son of Alfreda Taylor and Wendell Leon McReynolds. He was raised by his mother, Alfreda and stepfather, Paul E. Young Sr. He married Rochelle La Pierre in 1990, and she survives in Torrance, Calif.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Young is survived by his parents, Alfreda and Paul E. Young Sr. of Centralia; five children, Renahy Young of Los Angeles, Alana Young, Leah Young, Brandon Young and Kailana Young of Torrance, Calif.; one brother, Paul E. Young Jr. and wife Tina of Highland, Calif.; a sister, Pam McReynolds of Mt. Vernon; grandmothers, Inez McReynolds of Mikwaukee, and Fannie Mae Brown of Centralia; aunts Naomi Brown and Terri Bates, both of Centralia, Cynthia McReynolds of Mt. Vernon, Jacqueline McCollums of Peoria, Wanda Frazier of Milwaukee; uncles, Steve McReynolds of Mt. Vernon, Dexter Young of Los Angeles; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wendell McReynolds; grandfathers, Gaylord McReynods and Henry “Doc” Leake Jr.; maternal grandmother, Helen Taylor; three aunts, Pamela Sue Taylor, Linda McReynolds Brack and Hazel Flagg Campbell; and three uncles, Leonard “Moose” Taylor, Henry “Roach” Leake III and Bobby J. Wilks.
Mr. Young was a sports enthusiast. He grew up with a toy football in his crib and was very athletic and always on a team, according to his family. He earned a football scholarship to Oregon University, met his wife, and proceeded to play professional football. He played mostly in Canada with one summer season as a Buffalo Bill. After football he returned home to Carson, Calif., and became a longshoreman until his passing. He also enjoyed games on the computer (Xbox) and social media, cooking and spending time with his children.
Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 25, 2015. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Centralia, with Rev. Ronald Johnson officiating.
Friends may call at time of service on Wednesday and are asked to meet at the cemetery.
