FAIRFIELD — An incident Monday night involving guns and methamphetamine at a Fairfield home resulted in the arrest of the home’s 54-year-old resident.

Melinda K. New of rural Fairfield was arrested on meth-related charges following an incident at her home Monday night in which she exited the home displaying a loaded Ruger rifle.

Wayne County Sheriff’s deputies were called to New’s home earlier Monday on a report of unwanted people at her home, but when deputies arrived they found no evidence of anyone in or near her home.

They were called back shortly after 6 p.m. Monday on another report of unwanted people at her home. Deputies were aware that New had guns inside her home, so they got on their loudspeaker and ordered her out of the house.

She complied, but came out of the house displaying a loaded Ruger rifle. Deputies ordered New to drop the weapon, which she did, but then reportedly resisted arrest.

Inside her home, deputies reportedly found a quantity of suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, a set of digital scales, and prescription pills.

New was taken to the Wayne County jail where she was booked on charges of possession of meth and obstructing a peace officer.
