FRANKLIN COUNTY — A police chase that started in Centralia sped through five southern Illinois counties last night has ended with two people being arrested.
According to Zeigler Police Chief Ben Burkhamer, the chase started with a domestic dispute in Marion County, and resulted in the two male suspects in the vehicle fleeing Centralia police.
Officers from Christopher, Zeigler, Royalton, Hurst and Carbondale police departments all responded.  The suspect hit a patrol car from Christopher and the officer behind the wheel suffered a fractured wrist.
The chase ended when the suspect crashed the truck at the intersection of Route 51 and Pleasant Hill Road in Carbondale, when a tire ripped off the truck due to wear and tear from the high-speed chase, causing the driver to veer off the road.
Two male suspects in their 20s were arrested after a large amount of marijuana and cash was found inside that truck. The suspects names are not being released because the investigation is ongoing. Police report one of the suspects was treated at an area hospital for wounds not caused during the chase or in apprehension.
