EAST ST. LOUIS — Donnie A. Sherrell, 22, of Granite City, was sentenced today in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Illinois to 70 months in prison and 3 years of supervised release on two counts of Sale of a Weapon to a Convicted Felon and two counts of Possession of a Weapon by a Felon.
Evidence showed that from May until August of 2014, Sherrell sold a total of four weapons to a convicted felon, including a 9mm semiautomatic handgun, a .38 caliber revolver, and two rifles. Sherrell, himself, is a convicted felon.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Laura Reppert.
