SPRINGFIELD (AP) — A plan to allow bobcat hunting in Illinois is gaining traction in the Senate.
Senator Sam McCann of Carlinville is the main backer of the bill. It passed both chambers last year, but former governor Pat Quinn vetoed it.
The bill would allow hunters to kill one bobcat each season. McCann says the proposal is a way to prevent problems before they occur.
The bill passed out of committee and McCann says he hopes to call it for a vote in the next few weeks.
He says he;s not sure if Gov. Bruce Rauner is on board, but Rauner did reportedly say he’d sign it before he was elected.
