J. Laverne Crane

CENTRALIA — J. LaVerne Crane, 80, of Centralia, passed away at 9:31 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Centralia.

IMG_9640He was born on December 5, 1934 in Centralia, the son of Russell and Madge (Sessions) Crane. Donald married Anna Jane (Hall) Crane in 1955 in Salem,  and she preceded him in death. Then he married Shirley Ann (Fortag) on November 11, 1989 in Odin, and she still survives in Centralia.

Mr. Crane is survived by his wife; daughters Susan Jayne Hanks of Odin, Louanne Brink of Centralia, Kristina Mulvaney and husband Delbert of Kinmundy, and  Jill Crane Joiner and husband Ron of Salem; brother James Mitchell Crane and wife Pam, of  Wayne City; step-daughters Cindy Ann Keller of Pana, and Kelly R. Parrish of Salem; brother Spencer Crane and wife Brenda of Centralia; 13 Grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; daughter Tammy Jo Graves; brother Alan Crane; and sister Loretta Miller.

He worked as a car welder for the Illinois Central Railroad for 32 years, and was lifelong area resident. He was Jehovah Witness. He enjoyed reading, gardening, and spending time with his family.

Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 3, 2015 at Hillcrest Memorial Park Mausoleum with Jim Rockett officiating.

Friends may call Friday at the time of service and are asked to meet at the cemetery.

For those who wish, memorials may be made to Centralia Congregation of Jehovah Witness, and will be accepted at the Irvin Funeral Home in Centralia, who is in charge of arrangements.
