WEST FRANKFORT — In an example of the decline of print media, the West Frankfort Daily American newspaper will cease publication next month.
The paper’s parent company, Gatehouse Media, announced Wednesday that the decision was made due to challenging economic conditions in the market that has left the company unable to maintain operations.
Not only will the West Frankfort paper stop publication, the Murphysboro American and the Money Stretcher will also cease publication the week of May 10.
Subscribers to the Murphysboro and West Frankfort papers will be notified by letter about their subscriptions. The company’s office in West Frankfort will stay open, but the one in Murphysboro will close.
Other Gatehouse Media properties in the area including the Benton Evening News will continue to operate and publish on their regular schedules.
