MASSAC COUNTY — According to Illinois State Police, they are investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting in Massac County.
ISP reports officers received a call just after noon Thursday about a man threatening suicide at his home. Officers were unable to find the man, but a second call came in an hour later reporting a man with a gun at Pell Cemetery.
The man reportedly fled from Brookport, and state police officers, as well as Massac County Sheriff’s deputies at the cemetery but Metropolis police were able to stop him near the intersection of Route 145 and Waldo Church Road after they deployed spike strips.
ISP says two Metropolis officers tried to use stun guns to subdue the man, but a Metropolis officer shot and killed the man when he turned the gun toward authorities.
The man’s name is not being released at this time.
