MARION COUNTY — A 47-year-old Vandalia man was sentenced today in Marion County court to 4-years in the Illinois Department of Corrections in connection with the August attempted burglary of a Marion County jewelry store.
Johnny Negron pleaded guilty today to the felony burglary charge for the attempted burglary to Wolenhaupt’s Jewelry on Green Street Road east of Central City.
According to court records, Negron was identified earlier in video surveillance at the business.
A felony burglary charge in a separate 2015 case against Negron was dismissed per the plea agreement. In that case Negron was accused of the February attempted burglary of a storage shed behind the Salem Walmart store.
At the time of his arraignment in the second case, Negron was advised he was eligible for Class X felony sentencing if convicted in both cases. A Class X sentence can run between 6 and 20 years. He was instead convicted in just one case and was sentenced to 4-years on the Class 3 felony charge.
