CENTRALIA — The Illinois Department of Human Services has launched an investigation into the death of a 46-year-old resident of the Warren G. Murray Developmental Center in Centralia.

According to a press statement released by Acting IDHS Secretary Greg Bassi, a resident of the Murray Center passed away on March 30.

During the course of their initial review of the death, officials grew concerned by inconsistent statements given by staff members, and the matter was referred to the IDHS Office of the Inspector General to carry out a full investigation.

Based upon OIG’s initial review, the matter has been referred to the Illinois State Police.

Two staff members have been placed on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the ISP investigation.
