Centralia Mayor Tom Ashby was reelected Tuesday, beating out challenger Danny Stover by more than 160 votes.

Ashby will also retain his slate on the City Council, with David Sauer, Bill Smith and Andre Marshall all easily winning reelection.

In Salem, Rex Barbee beat his mayoral opponents, 659 to Joe Hotze’s 459 and Sarah Boyles’ 83.

Nicholas Farley was the top vote getter for Salem City Council, bringing in 581 and Craig Morton received 555. Dave Black was unseated, bringing in only 533 and Melanie Purcell Johnson received 532.

In other opposed races in Centralia and Marion County, Keith Kessler, Galen Mahle, Rod Snow, and Larry James, were the top vote getters respectively for the four seats available on the Centralia High School Board.

Diane Eller brought in the most votes for the Salem High School Board, followed by Sarah Meador and Sue Andrews, to fill three available spots.

In Mt. Vernon, Donte Moore and Jeff May received the most votes for City Council, bringing in 31 and 30 percent of the total votes cast to be seated in the two available spots.

For the four four-year terms on the Mt. Vernon High School Board, Terry Knowles, Norma Fairchild, Christena Elliott, and Larry Smith were elected to the four four-year seats available on the Mt. Vernon High School Board, beating out Brenda Cain and Elbert “Butch” Staples II.

In a big move, Jefferson County, voters approved a sales tax increase that will go towards public safety and will avert potential layoffs at the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department.

In the Village of Odin, Doug Davis, Rodney Hardy and Ron Roberts were the top vote getters, respectively, each winning one of thee seats available on the Village Board of Trustees.

Carl Michael, Rose Mary Pulver and Cora Oehmke, won election to three available seats on the Sandoval Village Board of Trustees, beating out Tyson McHenry and Ed Jones.

Kenneth Helm, Carl Gordon, and Terry Bartley will fill three seats on the Village of Iuka Board of Trustees, having beat out Bruce Wilkins.

In Kinmundy Ward 2, Marla Shirley edged out Niki Parker, and for Patoka School Board, Andy Goldsboro, was the top vote getter, followed by Rick Burks, Gary Hood and Linda Murphy.

Michael Hoover, Rodney Hawley, Troy Norman and Patrick Dagg will each be seated on the Odin School Board, narrowly edging out Terry Tate.
