MT. VERNON — A southern Illinois man serving a life sentence for sex crimes against a child has lost his bid for a new trial.
An Illinois appeals court has denied Brian Bowlby’s request for a new trial. Bowlby is serving life for sex crimes against a child in Hamilton County.
That’s on top of a 270-year sentence for similar crimes in Saline County. In that case, Bowlby claimed the the judge allowed prejudicial evidence, and prosecutors made inflammatory statements about him.
The appeals court denied Bowlby’s request for a new trial and upheld his lengthy sentence.
