LACON, Ill. (AP) — The Marshall County Board is asking former U.S. Rep. Aaron Schock to pay for the special elections to replace him.

The (Peoria) Journal-Star reports the board voted last week to send a $76,000 bill to the Peoria Republican. Schock resigned his U.S. House seat last month after questions about his spending.

His spokesman did not respond to an emailed request for comment about the board’s letter.

The letter seeks a certified check or an agreement that Shock will cover this summer’s special and general election costs. The letter also went to the 20 other voting jurisdictions in the 18th Congressional District.

The newspaper says Schock has $3.3 million in campaign funds.

Marshall County State’s Attorney Paul Bauer says that’s “more money than the county has in its reserves.”
